Compensation Specialist
The Classification & Compensation Specialist plays a crucial role in implementing and administering the university’s classification and compensation system, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. This position involves analyzing position and compensation requests, providing guidance to departments, and resolving routine issues and employee concerns.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review, evaluate, and approve transactions, input changes related to position management and compensation in Workday.

  • Review position and compensation/classification change requests, analyzing internal and external data and communicating the outcome of those requests to the appropriate department.
  • Reviews job descriptions for required details and appropriate content.
  • Monitors job titles/job descriptions for each position as listed in the system.
  • Ongoing maintenance and management of the job profile/job catalog framework in Workday.
  • Maintain awareness and knowledge of HR related laws and practices, as well as internal policies/procedures.
  • Provide guidance to departments on classification and compensation matters.
  • Assists management with the development of data analysis and reporting.
  • Provides excellence in customer satisfaction.
  • Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
  • Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s Christian model and Mission – Training Champions for Christ.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES  

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable experience required and a minimum of 2-3 years of business, compensation, or an equivalent combination of education and similar experience in a high-paced, large-size, higher-education or corporate setting.
  • Must have strong technical/computer skills, and a working knowledge of Workday software is desired. 
  • Preferred certifications: SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), HRCI Professional of Human Resources (PHR), or HRCI Senior Professional of Human Resources (SPHR).

  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well articulated information.

  • Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner.

  • Establish priorities and organize workload; plan, coordinate and implement special projects; work in a team environment to achieve organizational goals;
  • Ability to independently research problem areas, facilitate meetings and decision-making processes.
  • Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.

Physical and Sensory Abilities

  • May be required to travel to local and campus locations.
  • May be required to sit to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard.
  • Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the campus.
  • Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business.
  • Regularly lift 10 or fewer pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work Environment

The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled setting.  It is well lighted, and the noise level is moderate.  Working environment may include facilitation of events outdoors occasionally.  

Driving Requirements

If the employee is required to travel in performing the duties and responsibilities of the position, the use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) may be required for travel.  Proof of a valid driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, LU Driving Approval, and liability insurance is required when driving in the performance of the employee’s position.
